An SUV with three rows, like the Honda Pilot or Subaru Ascent, should have the power to get your family up and over any terrain, keep everyone entertained, and look great doing it. So, which one is right for you and your family?

Maguire Honda helps drivers and families in Ithaca, Elmira, and Corning with this Honda Pilot vs. Subaru Ascent comparison.

Honda Pilot vs Subaru Ascent Performance

The 2019 Honda Pilot and Subaru Ascent are both capable of towing up to 5,000 pounds. The Honda has an easier time moving your cargo though. It runs on a 3.5L V6 engine that gets up to 280 horsepower. This engine is designed with Intelligent Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (i-VTEC) to maximize production.

To go along with this powertrain, you'll have either a 6-speed automatic transmission or a 9-speed automatic with Shift-By-Wire and paddled shifters.

The Subaru Ascent offers less power. It has a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine that only gets up to 260 horsepower. While it's a capable engine, it doesn't have the efficient i-VTEC design. Its transmission isn't as capable either. It only offers a Lineartronic® High-Torque Continuously Variable Transmission (HCVT).

Honda Pilot vs Subaru Ascent Infotainment System

The 2019 Honda Pilot features a user-friendly infotainment system. A high-resolution touchscreen is located in the center of the dashboard and features Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink for safely making phone calls and streaming music.

You can also add an SMS Text Message Feature to hear and safely reply to texts without taking your hands off the wheel. Voice control can also be used to access your favorite apps with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ or control your music through SiriusXM® Radio and HD Radio™.

The Honda Pilot also focuses on keeping your passengers entertained on your longest drives. This 3-row SUV offers a Rear Seat Entertainment System. It features a 9-inch screen that flips down from the ceiling to show passengers in the second and third rows their favorite Blu-rays or DVDs.

The Subaru Ascent also has a Bluetooth® compatible system that offers Apple CarPlay™, Android Auto™, and SiriusXM® Radio. However, it doesn't have anything like the Rear Seat Entertainment System to keep passengers occupied on long drives.

Honda Pilot vs Subaru Ascent Design

The 2019 Honda Pilot sports a stylish design with accent lines running down its angled the hood, sleek chrome bars across the grille, and a pair of diagonal headlights that blend in seamlessly. This transitions into a set of subtle roof rails that can help you tie cargo to the roof, but don't draw too much attention away from its streamlined design.

The Subaru Ascent also features accent lines along the hood, but its entire front is long and drawn out. Its oblong shape isn't very stylish. The front grille is large but doesn't catch the eye for the right reasons. Up top, it has a set of very pronounced, tall roof rails that can also help you carry extra gear, but don't look very good and might make it hard to fit into parking garages with lower ceilings.
