With a minivan like the Honda Odyssey, you want it to last for a long time, so it can take care of your family. To make sure it's there for all your road trips, holidays, and family vacations, it's important to know when to take it in for maintenance.

To show drivers in Ithaca, Elmira, and Corning when to schedule an appointment, Maguire Honda of Ithaca put together this run down of the Honda Odyssey maintenance schedule.

Honda Maintenance Minder™

The Honda Odyssey will give you a reminder when it's time for maintenance. These alerts appear as a short code on your instrument cluster. For example, when you need basic maintenance, you'll see A1. That's a simple code that means you need an oil change and to get your tires rotated. A code like B5 means that it's time to get your brake lines inspected and have your coolant replaced.

Every 7,500 Miles

Typically, you'll see a maintenance reminder on the instrument cluster every 7,500 miles. The codes you'll see the most often are for your most basic maintenance. That includes getting an oil change and rotating the tires. A service technician will also look over your van to check for any signs of wear and tear.

Every 15,000 Miles

After 15,000 miles your minivan will get another oil change and have its tires rotated again. It'll also get a new engine oil filter. On top of your basic maintenance, this visit to the service center involves a more extensive inspection.

To make sure you can slow down and stop safely, a technician will check every part of your brake system. This includes looking for any leaks in the brake lines, checking the parking brake, and looking to see how worn your brake pads are. If they're looking thin, a technician will replace them for you.

Under the hood, they'll check the exhaust system, cooling system hoses, tie rod ends, driveshaft boots, and look at all your fluid levels. Underneath your van, they'll examine the suspension and check the fuel lines for any leaks.

Every 30,000 Miles

Whenever your Honda Odyssey puts another 30,000 miles on the odometer, it'll receive all the same maintenance as before. To keep your engine healthy it'll get another oil change, a new oil filter, and have all its other major fluids checked. The tires will once again be rotated or replaced if the tread has started wearing out.

All the same parts and systems will need to be looked over again, plus, this time technicians will inspect and adjust your drive belts. They'll also replace two additional parts. First, you'll get a new air cleaner element. Then they'll replace your spark plugs.

Every Three Years

However many miles you drive per year, it's recommended that you get new brake fluid every three years. It's a good way to make sure your brakes are operating properly and keeping you safe.
