The Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4 are the kind of SUVs that all types of drivers will enjoy. They're fun to drive, loaded with safety features, and offer lots of space. So, which one has what you're looking for in your next SUV? To help drivers in Ithaca, Elmira, and Corning decide, Maguire Honda had them face off in this 2020 Honda CR-V vs. Toyota RAV4 comparison.
Interior Dimensions
The 2020 Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4 each have seating for up to five people. While both SUVs offer some great amenities, the Honda lets you get more comfortable. It features 105.9 cubic feet of passenger space, while the Toyota only has 98.9 cubic feet of space.
The biggest difference between the two is that the Honda CR-V has enough space for you to stretch your legs. Up front, the driver and passenger can enjoy 41.3 inches of legroom, while passengers in the back have 40.4 inches of legroom. The Toyota RAV4 has 41 inches of front legroom but passengers in the back seat may feel cramped with only 37.8 inches of legroom.
The Honda CR-V also has a larger trunk with 39.2 cubic feet of cargo room. Once again, the Toyota has less space with just 37.6 cubic feet. Both SUVs offer a hands-free access power tailgate and come with 60/40 split folding rear seats. With the back seats down, the Honda can offer up to 75.8 cubic feet of cargo room. The Toyota RAV4 continues to have less space with only 69.8 cubic feet of cargo room.
Infotainment System
To keep you connected, find the best route, and enjoy your favorite music, both SUVs offer a user-friendly infotainment system. Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® comes standard in the Honda CR-V, so you can stream music and safely make calls. For more music, both SiriusXM® Radio and HD Radio™ are also available. There's also an SMS Text Message Function. Plus, Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ let you access your smartphone apps.
The Toyota RAV4 has all the same smartphone compatibility and also offers both SiriusXM® and HD Radio™. However, its system isn't as user-friendly. The Honda features a touch-screen that blends in perfectly with the center of your dashboard. The Toyota's touch-screen sits on top of the dashboard. This makes it look like an afterthought and can obstruct your visibility.
Safety Features
The Honda CR-V also includes lots of driver-assistance features. For example, the touch-screen display lets you check behind your SUV using the multi-angle rearview camera. There's even technology that can monitor how you're driving. The standard Driver Attention Monitor can detect when you're tired or distracted and remind you to focus on the road or take a break from driving. To prevent accidents, Honda Sensing® also comes standard and includes:
- Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow
- Lane Keeping Assist System
- Collision Mitigation Braking System™
- Road Departure Mitigation System
The Toyota RAV4 also comes with a rearview camera and its Toyota Safety Sense™ system includes many of the same driver-assistance features. However, it doesn't offer anything that can monitor how you're driving, like the Driver Attention Monitor in the CR-V.
